Tamil Blogs

Came across the following statement whilst having a quick peek at the Indibloggies nominations, “Except for Tamil, situation is grim for all other Indian language blogs.” It is so true though, not that I know anything about other language blogs but the Tamil blogdom seems to be pretty much healthy. When it comes to the amount of information in Tamil the net on the whole (not just the blogs), does not cease to amaze me. How many of you here knew that you can do google searches in Tamil? The effort, resources and man hours put in by the individuals into developing fonts and digitising Tamil literature is awe inspiring (we are not talking about any Government funded projects here, as far as I know its just the keen individuals we have to thank for). Anyway here is a quick roundup of some of the tamil blogs you might want to pop by.

In my view the Tamil blogworld is a hell of lot better than the tamil MSM, whether its online or hard copies, the tamil weeklies and monthlies seem to be full of vulgarity & film news (most times its one and the same) and no substance. On the other hand be it humour, sports, politics, story writing or even bickering & fighting, the Tamil bloggers do a better job than any of the MSM I get to read on a regular basis. I shall try and list out some of the blogs I know of, starting with Dubukku annachi’s jolli thirindha kaalam series which seems to have been a big hit recently. There are rumours about him going to Canada to deliver an inspiring and stirring speech soon. For those of you interested in learning more on Tamil pazhamozhi, a visit to thulaisdhalam is a must. In my view the author is the queen of Tamil proverbs, I reckon she knows more than my grandmother:) Of course Rickshawallah Kupps site is a must for the fans of Madras Damil. But be warned that Kosappettai hasn’t been updating his blog as regularly as he should.

If you are cricket fan do not dare miss out Badri‘s blog and the cricket group blog here, Badri is also a publisher and his blog thoughtsintamil is one of the most informative blogs. Meenaks blogs about marketing in Tamil here. If you are fan of Sujatha’s then Desikan‘s blog is the obvious place to head to and if you are Thalaivar fanatic where else but here.

Came across this post by Chandrasekharan thanks to our Desipundit, ladies be warned if your other halves are any good at doing any housework please keep them away from reading it. Hmmmm I have not managed to write a few sentences without making any errors in Tamil, but I might as well atleast point you guys in the direction of some people who do so. Do visit here, here, here, here, here and here for more tamil blogs.

Due to lack of time I suppose I have not been spending much time reading tamil blogs, and I know there are plenty of others who are equally good or even better that I have missed out. In fact a good place to start on the tamil blogs journey would be Kasi‘s Tamizmanam. And I reserve the right to add more as and when I remember more:)

Update: You will find Venkat Kannadasan‘s blog here (thanks Ram) and a list of interesting posts are updated here on a daily basis by Icarus Prakash & Etamil Balaji.

The Witchy Angel: Top Bloggers? Get a life guys.

Posted by Snapjudge

Adadaa there is a huge storm in the tea cup in the Chennai blogworld and whats the point of my existence if I don’t open my big mouth and put my foot right in it. So here I go. Firstly, for those of you who are gonna scream saying that I am doing this to generate traffic, please do get a life. I don’t care about the statistics, I started blogging for the heck of it, just to have fun and not with any other aim. I don’t give a damn about the traffic figures.

I don’t even know why anyone would want to be called the Top Blogger. In Kiruba’s case it appears that creating a hype around oneself as The Top Indian Blogger helps him further his career, good luck to him. I suppose there is nothing wrong in that, most of his posts are nothing more than the rubbish that most of us churn out regularly. Nothing better nothing worse either. But it is certainly irritating though, to hear him talk highly about himself constantly. All that PR spin on oneself is extremely annoying. I personally thought the way he handled the Sulekha spamming issue was not very professional. It would have been nice if the General had taken ownership for a decision which I presume he was incharge of rather than letting Karthik Kannan take all the beatings. But then again its their corporate affair, who cares. Before I go any further does anyone know where I can buy soda online, I think lovely Sagaro aka Ganesh needs a crate of it. The poor kid has been defending Kiruba so much in the last couple of days.

Going back to the Top blogger issue, I would be surprised if Chenthil wrote that post for the want of generating traffic. There are million other better ways to generate traffic if thats what one is after, Chenthil’s post I guess was more to do with being irritated with the hype rather than anything else.

Anyway, this led me to wonder who is the top Chennai blogger in my view. Remember this is an award being given out by me, I am the Jury and I am the Judge here so I get to decide with all my prejudice who the top blogger is in my view 😛

My immediate thought was LG, despite his occasional ridiculously sexist posts I do like Lazy. But he doesn’t live in Chennai or in India so he won’t qualify for that crown. After considering Capri, Me, Curses, Prav, fun2fun, Neha, visithra, Kaps, Ramya, the blogger with an identity crisis aNTi etc I decided that either they don’t live in the country and/or they just churn out rubbish as good as mine. (HeeHee, I know this lot won’t get offended but am still keeping my fingers crossed right now). Eventually settled on CCG, but hang on for a second though, what have any of us achieved by blogging? Yes some of us have furthered our careers by creating a hype of being the top blogger, but apart from that its just vetti works for most of us. So after putting Ravages up on that pedestal for a few seconds I decided to bring him down and hand the nice shiny crown to Jeevan. There a number of people I admire in the blog world and Jeevan is amongst them for his bravery, for his enthusiasm and more importantly for his perseverance. I honestly don’t know how I would cope if I was in Jeevan’s shoes, here is to you Jeevan.

Addendum :- Hmmmm how the hell did I miss these blogs when I was thinking of all the vetti blogs in the world. In case you are looking for more vetti works do check these out too Ferrari, Sriram, Syam, Dubukku, Raasaa.

I do not know about the reasons why others are blogging. If blogging is of great use to someone in keeping him happy, and if someone is in constant touch with friends through blogging, then it should be the great Jeevan. I do not have words to explain his enthusiasm in blogging. You need to listen to his mother to know about his talents. He is shy, and does not speak much but puts more in action. I congratulate him, for being considered. Jeevan Keep it up…

Hey! This is a really cool site!! Traveling is sooo cool especially if it’s to exotic locations..The coolest part is getting the best bargains on flights around the world… I found this really neat online fare consolidator called Cfares, that I use regularly.. check out the link at :

http://cfares.regalix.com/cfares/cfares/index.jsp?channel=blpo

Tell all ur friends and colleagues in the US. Awesome prices if ur flying anywhere in the world..and it’s really useful, if ur flying from the US to China, South East Asia and Europe…hope this helps!! The Gold membership is free, and the deals are really good.. They have a platinum membership too, but I think that’s paid.. not really sure, but you get much better deals than the gold membership.

Cheers
